Reviews of The Writer’s ABC Checklist

I'm just starting out as a writer and only had school essay formats to fall back on. I bought this book on writing because it said it would tell me how to format manuscripts. Well this book does exactly what it says on the tin, and so much more.

There is a wealth of information about starting out as a writer, things I hadn't even considered like having to submit a Christmas article by August (unfortunately I've missed that deadline, but I'll know for next year) and the fact that I could sell the same story in more than one country and be paid. For me, personally, just starting out, this book has been a real find.

The ABC Checklist for New Writers is a very useful tool for new writers trying to suss out the best way to write and present their work and to make it stand out from the others in a publisher's mailbox.

This is not one of those 'learn to write' books to read in sequence (where you tend to switch off after an overdose of 'writing speak'), but rather a step by step guide. You search for key words and find the information presented to be clear and comprehensive. You can dip in and out without having to worry about missing something.

As the details are laid out in alphabetical order (as the title implies) it's easy to use. Whether you look at, for example, Biography, Layout, or Research, you will find in-depth explanations of all areas.
The index at the beginning of the book is highly useful in order to pinpoint exactly what you are looking for.

The ABC Checklist for New Writers is one of the most useful writers' guides I've come across. It's full of all sorts of tricks of the trade and answers the questions every writer needs to know. Highly recommended.

This is a great book with lots of good advice on presentation and how to format for radio and TV as well as for magazines and preparing a book synopsis. Also there's good, and easy to follow, tips on grammar. I'd recommend this book to anyone who'd like to see their work published.
